Welcome & Introduction (9:00 – 9:30 a.m.) Your experience begins with a warm welcome at Cielo Ranch Reserve, where your guide introduces the inspiring history of the property — from former cattle pasture to a thriving wildlife refuge and reforestation project. Learn how our vision for regeneration connects people, nature, and culture in one living landscape. Section 1: Agricultural Demonstration Trail (20 minutes) The walk begins through our agricultural area, featuring small test plots of Costa Rica’s most iconic crops — including corn, coffee, bananas, plantains, sugar cane, yuca, ginger, pineapple and more. Here, guests learn about the cultural and historical importance of each plant and how they contribute to both traditional life and modern sustainability efforts. Section 2: Natural Regeneration Forest (20–30 minutes) Enter a section of naturally regenerating forest, where native species are reclaiming the land. This area is a favorite for spotting sloths, howler monkeys, and white-faced monkeys moving among the trees, along with tropical birds and butterflies. Section 3: The Teak Forest (20–30 minutes) Continue into our 20-year-old teak reforestation area, an important part of Cielo Ranch’s sustainable forestry model. Learn about the role of managed timber production in conservation and how planted forests can work hand-in-hand with native ecosystem recovery. Section 4: Scenic Road Walk (10 minutes) A short, easy stretch along the main ranch road gives guests a chance to walk through the tall teak trees along a river's edge before entering the primary jungle. Section 5: Primary Forest Trail (10 minutes) Step into untouched primary forest — dense, vibrant, and full of life. Here you’ll often encounter leaf-cutter ant colonies, hear the calls of tropical birds, and sometimes glimpse monkeys moving through the canopy. Section 6: The Cattle Ranch & Lost Lake (20–30 minutes) The trail emerges into our working cattle area, home to Lost Lake, one of Cielo Ranch’s key rejuvenation projects. This area supports wetlands, migratory birds, and even the occasional caiman. Visitors will see our cattle and, if time allows, may help feed them while learning how sustainable livestock practices can coexist with reforestation and wildlife conservation. 4x4 Ride to Rosita’s Restaurant (5–10 minutes) After exploring the reserve, guests travel by our Cielo Ranch 4x4 vehicle up to Rosita’s Private Restaurant, surrounded by forest and gardens. Section 7: Cultural & Culinary Experience (1 hour) The hands-on portion of your visit begins as you press fresh sugarcane juice using our traditional trapiche mill, then join our tortilla-making class to prepare your own Costa Rican tortillas. The experience concludes with a homemade Costa Rican chicken and vegetable soup, dessert, and fresh sugarcane juice — a farm-to-table meal made from ingredients grown right here on the ranch. End of Tour (Around 1:00 p.m.) Relax and enjoy the tranquil surroundings of Rosita’s before departing. Guests leave with a deeper appreciation of Costa Rica’s culture, biodiversity, and the reforestation work that makes Cielo Ranch Reserve thrive.
